They tried the same recipe and failed miserably. The cast looked good. Although they clearly went with the stereoptypes of most minorities, they could have done a good job if they just tried a lit bit. Instead they decided to focus on the two most boring characters, the Strands. Two despots who leave the Big City for Texas and think the people in Austin are stupid and need them to live. You have a trans man, a muslim woman working as a firefighter, a dyslexic latino, a gay latino, a black dispatcher, a black paramedic... and yet they are there as props. Somebody would think they just hired them to get their diversity quota.
