Yes, even the writers and producers knew they were basically remaking The Love Boat, because they lampshaded it several times, in dialog, and including the modernized, extravagant recreation of the Pacific Princess's Lido deck set. But The Love Boat was a show with intentionally absurd writing that reveled in how absurd it was, embraced the goofiness, and didn't take itself seriously in all its campy charm. It even had a laugh track. This show has all the absurd writing, and more, and does none of that. It takes itself very seriously. It's almost painful. It sure does look nice, though, and the cast is OK. But that isn't enough to carry this show. If it makes it through an entire season, I'll be surprised.
