Good American Family S01E05 1080p WEB-DL DD5.1 x265

I am so sick of seeing this format in dramas based on real events: they assume that you've already read and/or watched a lot of content (which I have) and use that to jump to the conclusion that you don't need a linear storyline. This series jumps between flashbacks and flash-forwards with the expectation that knowing the ending will convince you to keep watching, but it ignores the expectations of audiences to be entertained instead of informed. Seeing exactly where it's heading completely diffuses any suspense in the retelling. Even for somebody who already knows, the possibility of a surprise take would have kept it fresh. I they could have solved this issue by committing to a linear retelling from the Barnetts' perspective, and then perhaps teasing the next season by introducing the lawsuit and hinting at a different version of events from Natalia's perspective. That would have kept viewers much more engaged through narrative cohesion, and ultimately hooked for the next season by the cliffhanger. Giving it away too early just releases tension prematurely and sacrifices long-term interest. Again, it feels like pandering to those who are already in the know by assuming they don't care about being entertained.
