When I first saw this show, I thought "The Secret Life of Pets" for adults. First off, it's the pilot. All pilots are rusty. Actors finding their characters' grooves and improving interactions with other characters. Heck, there are many critically acclaimed, long-running and beloved shows that have shaky first seasons! A lot of times, networks have to take a chance and hope for a return on the investment. Lisa Kudrow makes a hilarious dog/therapist. Jason. Jason Mantzoukas plays a pretty funny one-eyed cat. I'd like to see his "funny side" come out a little more in this character. I know, it's tough to do this without upstaging other actors and characters but he's a funny guy. Probably tough for him to really find his stride with an ensemble cast. We'll see. He was hilarious as Derek in The Good Place. In the end, I hope folks give this show a chance. I realize that there are a lot of negative feels right now, in general. This show has a lot of good, positive energy going for it. Would I like to see more of the super old turtle and his escapades? Of course. Do I want to see Kudrow's character continue to engage with the sexy coyote? Absolutely! I do worry that people hear "Lisa Kudrow" and immediately think "Friends" or whatever. Don't judge this show by that show. What do I love about this show, besides from the voice acting and little details? I love the way they actually watched real animals to figure out how they move, what makes them tick, and gave them some anthropomorphic energy beyond the sterile Disney-style talking animals we're all so used to. Overall, this is a hilarious pilot of an animated show, and I just hope the network continues to believe in it as a show, and doesn't pull the plug early.
