Mayfair Witches S01E01 720p WEB-DL x265
It's been at least two decades since I last read these books, so I do have a bit of distance that helps me focus less on the details that need to be altered or liberties taken for the sake of television. I will say that like the series, the show is quite the slow burn for me. The casting is just okay, in my eyes, but here again, distance makes me just a little more accepting, and there are some characters I feel I can eventually get into. Lasher, for instance, is not what I'd have imagined, but as a huge Huston fan, I feel the beginnings of appreciation...though I'm not there yet. Harry Hamlin as Cortland works for me more than any cast member thus far, because he does look debonair, but I immediately felt the same disdain for him I got from the books. He plays the dark and dashing hedonist quite well, and it's obvious from his first line that he means no good. I'm an Annabeth Gish fan, as well, but I can't yet tell much about how she'll portray the role because of her current state. I definitely look forward to seeing what future episodes bring. Alexandra as Rowan is the character I'm struggling most to believe at the moment, but I'm hoping she'll draw me in as the plot is further developed. As I mentioned above, this series took several chapters to really grab me, anyway, but it eventually did, so I'm hopeful. Overall, I'll watch as a Rice fan, but it remains to be seen whether I'll feel pressed to watch weekly or if I'll wait and binge...but I'll watch.
