I love what Johnson did with the Knives Out films but I had much higher hopes for this show. Opting to make it an episodic show (with a lame connecting arc from the pilot) feels like a mistake. I enjoy Charlie, but I find Leone's performances a bit pedestrian, and aside from her the only other recurring character is Benjamin Bratt (who is great with his limited appearances). If Johnson had chosen not to do the episodic approach (which became formulaic after about episode 4 for me) he could have done what he does best; character development. So the show left me with only one character I actually cared about, which is what has really driven the Golden Age of TV that we're enjoying these days. It's definitely worth watching and better than 95% of the dreck that streaming services have to sift thru, but I just wish Johnson had opted for a connected series with multiple character arcs driven by characters I could actually care about. Seeing as this is all that Peacock really has to offer I plan to ditch it from my streaming lineup when I finish the show.
