Some people are relating this to shows I haven't watched, so I can't tell you if they're right or not. What I can tell you is this is a great example of a complex character. Not always likable, not always moral, but anyone who made it past episode one will tell you that's something they can appreciate. It feels like a character study and the relationships Jax has are important to understanding her. That's not to say other characters aren't well written, their own motivations and personalities are clear. I do think some of the acting could be a bit more polished since I'm not always sure why they're responding the way they are, which seems less like intended mystery from the writers and more like the direction the actors are given is trying to amplify the drama.
