What a gorgeous adaptation. I absolutely adored the book and HATED the American version so it was a welcome sigh of relief to watch so many of the weird and wonderful things Dahl was always able to capture in his stories. Casting was sublime and the actress who played Miss Honey did it so wonderfully, she broke my heart with her story even though I knew it was coming. The music was superb and while it is very obviously leaning on the stage show, I really didn't mind that. Really didn't understand why she had no brother in this, it wouldn't have detracted and it would have been more faithful to the original. Stephen Graham, that man can act in ANYTHING and he was so good as Mr Wormwood! All in all, a really beautiful film. My daughter and I loved it and then she made me play the soundtrack all the way home. That says it all.
