Previous reviewer had no idea what a complex and layered show this is...but then again he wrote his review while "watching" the third episode. This series is wonderfully reminiscent of: (French) La Planète sauvage or (English) FANTASTIC PLANET a fabulously inventive & restrained 1974 animated sci-fi classic directed by René Laloux and written by Laloux and Roland Topor, the latter of whom also completed the film's production design. The allegorical story, about humans living on a strange planet dominated by giant humanoid aliens who consider them animals. Also, NAUSICAA, Valley of the Wind , another brilliant animated film this time from Japan about warrior and pacifist Princess Nausicaä struggling to prevent two warring nations from destroying themselves and their dying planet. Released in 1984 , written & directed by Hayao Miyazaki for Studio Ghibli (rereleased by Disney 2005). Both of these films, IMHO, grandparented Scavengers Reign and lets the setting of a truly alien world and it's lifeforms advance the storyline all the while allowing the viewer to interpret the symbolic fictional narrative without hitting the viewer "over the proverbial" to grasp the meaning not explicitly set forth in the narrative. After only 3 episodes I WANT more and look forward to lessons learned.
