I was intrigued by all the woke reviews, so I decided to make up my own mind. Full disclosure: I am a white man and always looking for authenticity and realism in movies and TV stories. Now for the matter at hand: Look and Feel: This is a gorgeous looking series which takes full advantage of San Francisco, the beautiful scenery and the photogenic magic of its main hero. The music is pretty damn good too. Cast: Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a beautiful woman and an excellent actress, she holds the series together and keeps us interested despite an unoriginal script. Now the problems start with the rest of the casting. The 2 male leads (husband -white- and lover -black-) have zero gravitas and Gugu is definitely out of their league. The husband is the caricature of the pathetic rich white guy. That's overdone. The rest of the cast is annoying at best with lack of nuance in their playing. As for the wokeness, I would say this: Mixed race couples are very common so people should get over it. What is grossly exaggerated though is that all the white cast is portrayed as miserable human beings with all flaws and not a single interesting feature let alone redeeming quality. That seems indeed overcooked and annoying.
