I really enjoyed this show. It is similar in tone to Davies' other work like Man Down and Cuckoo to a lesser degree. He specialises in awkward and inappropriate. He says the wrong thing at the wrong time. Gets weighed down by what he thinks he should say. Plus he is a buffoon. He means well but often gets it wrong, or gets it right but still says the wrong thing. There are cringeworthy moments - lots of them. There is surreal humour - lots of it. Theres some bits skirting on the edge of being very un-pc as he playfully questions attitudes. Each episode is a stand alone story with a guest star - all do a great job. This is a comedy drama - its not laugh out loud all the way through - though I laughed lots. I was surprised to see this on BBC 1 - it would not have been considered mainstream a few years ago and is similar to what you might expect on Channel 4 or maybe BBC 2. I was worried it might have been watered down. It hasn't, and the gore factor is just on the right side of not taking over.
