The antipathy toward this single-season limited miniseries has taken me a bit by surprise. I am not the biggest fan of Amanda Seyfried, but she is quite good playing the therapist/academic, Rya Goodwin. (Her husband IRL, Thomas Sadowski, has a smaller, supporting role as the cop anxious to prove that he's found a real, live serial killer.) Then Will Chase is appropriately disturbing as the character of "the villainous stepfather," Marlin, opposite Emmy Rossum as the central character's mom. And finally we have that main character, played by a revelatory Tom Holland. To point out that this role is miles and many moons away from Spider-man is almost criminal understatement. And recent sentiments expressed by Holland seem to confirm that if an actor's really sensitive, a role like Danny takes a huge toll on one's psyche. I wish him the best as he takes what must be a welcome break from 10 months of the psychological torture of this part. I'm going out of my way not to spoil the layers of who Danny Sullivan really is, but suffice to say that it's worth the investments in psychic energy and time to watch as Tom Holland reveals that. I grant this a rating of 7/10 stars after the sixth episode, but reserve the right to modify it later.
