The Endgame is a crime drama centered on the relationship between an FBI agent and a criminal mastermind. (No Spoilers) It stars Morena Baccarin as criminal mastermind Elena Federova and Ryan Michelle Bathe as FBI agent Val Fitzgerald. The series was co-created and written by Jake Coburn and Nicholas Wootton. I was happy to see Jordan Johnson-Hinds, who I think is a talented actor, playing FBI agent Anthony Flowers the supportive partner to the overly dramatic agent Fitzgerald. The attempt at making The Endgame feel like a fast-paced action-drama series felt forced, sloppy, and rushed. A good story allows you to have a little curiosity and connection with the characters. Each scene is over the top, filled with cheesy lines and needless dramatics. It was like reliving the pain of watching Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) cry in every scene of Star Trek Discovery. By the end of the first episode, I was turned off uninterested in the characters and the storyline. I am never tired of watching shows that use words like "criminal mastermind" and could see this show being a hit. The showrunner needs to find discipline and pull back on the needless dramatics. Many of the reviews I have read say that it's like Blacklist, but to me, the crimes committed coupled with the action sequences felt very much like a show from the late eighties. The first episode reminded me a little of Burn Notice, and for some reason, I loved the cheesy lines and over-the-top dramatics of that show. I guess that proves that you shouldn't listen to my opinion and see the show yourself.
