A locked door murder mystery with a watery twist from the team behind Line of Duty and the Bodyguard, no pressure on the writers of Vigil then.. Certainly no arguments with the cast, some of the UK's best, Suranne Jones, Martin Compson, Shaun Evans getting to use his own accent for once, Rose Leslie and Paterson Joseph to name a few, were all on song. It's an intriguing premise, there's been a few real life stories of drug abuse and misbehaviour on HM submarines in recent years and it felt believable. The first episode threw us a lot of interesting plotlines - are the Russians on their trail? What's the tragedy in Amy's past? Was Craig murdered? What are the Navy top brass hiding? I'm sure there's twists a plenty ahead and I'm definitely going back on board. Note, it was filmed under Covid restrictions, hence the roomy submarine.
